Testimonials

Welcome!

Hi, I’m Matt Permuy, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I believe meaningful healing happens when mental and emotional wellbeing are given the same care and attention as physical health. My path into this work began in clinical research settings within hospitals and medical institutions, where I observed how often emotional experiences were overlooked despite their powerful role in healing. That experience shaped my commitment to supporting the whole person—mind, body, and lived experience.

I hold both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. My professional background includes work in nonprofit and community-based settings, where I have supported individuals from diverse backgrounds navigating life transitions, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and the lasting effects of past experiences.

My Focus

I have a particular interest in working with generational and intergenerational trauma. In therapy, I help clients explore how family history, cultural context, and inherited patterns may be influencing present-day emotions, relationships, and self-understanding—often in subtle or hard-to-identify ways.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and person-centered. I view therapy as a partnership in which you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to offer support, insight, and guidance as we work together. I take a strengths-based approach and draw from evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring our work to your unique needs and goals.

My Goals for You

My goal is not to keep you in therapy indefinitely, but to help you build insight, confidence, and practical tools that support meaningful, lasting change. Therapy is a space to grow, heal, and develop skills that empower you to move forward and reconnect with the life you want to live.

I believe change begins when a person feels genuinely seen and heard. When therapeutic tools are combined with your own inner wisdom, growth becomes possible. I would be honored to support you as you take this meaningful step toward healing and self-discovery.
